Scope Boundary: Observable CSV Data Defects vs. Native XLSX Formulas

Payroll Auditor evaluates payroll files exported as CSV (Comma-Separated Values). Because CSV files store raw text rather than active spreadsheet cell formulas, our audit engine does not inspect native .xlsx formula syntax trees directly.

Instead, Payroll Auditor scans the resulting data-integrity defects created when spreadsheet calculations or exports produce malformed or missing values, including:

  • Text Currency Symbols: Spreadsheet cells formatted with text symbols (e.g. ₦150,000) that cause standard accounting software to import the cell as text or zero.
  • Duplicate Employee Identifiers: Accidental duplication of employee ID rows across multi-sheet workbooks or manual copy-pasting.
  • Blank Financial Cells: Omitted deduction values resulting from incomplete data entry or unpopulated lookup results in Excel.
  • Arithmetic Variances: Discrepancies where the sum of deductions fails to match stated net pay due to manual cell overrides before export.

Does Payroll Auditor replace my payroll software?

No. Payroll Auditor works with the payroll you've already prepared. Upload your existing CSV and use it as a verification step before payment.

Is my payroll data uploaded to a server?

No. Payroll processing is performed in your browser rather than sending your payroll file to a backend for analysis.

What does Payroll Auditor check?

It checks supported payroll calculations, data integrity and applicable statutory conditions.

Does zero variance mean my payroll is fully compliant?

No. Zero calculation variance does not necessarily mean every statutory or data-integrity check has passed. Payroll Auditor reports these findings separately.

No. Payroll Auditor is a payroll verification tool. It does not replace tax filing, payroll processing or professional accounting advice.
